Authors: Prakash, Chaitanya

Issue Date: 1975
Abstract: In this investigation behaviour of surface footings subjected to eccentric loads in cohesive soils has been studied with the help of model tests. Experiments were perfoiiead on Square (5 cm x 5 cm; 10 cm x 10 cm) , rectangular (5 cm x 10 cm) and strip (10 cm wide) footings. The clay was compac ted at moisture content near saturation. The footings were subjected to eccentric load e/D ratio - 09 0.19 0.2 and 0.-3. The load were applied in increments and the measurements of vertical settlement and tilt were taken under each increment of load. Triaxial undrained, consolidated undrained, drained test and unconfined compressive strength test were c ~nduc ted on s mplo s taken from test tanks to deterr_iine C - 0 parameters of cl zy. Trends of bearing capacity, settlement and tilt of such footings have been studied. with respect to eccentricity. Comparison with the work of previous invertigatrs has also, been made.
