dc.description.abstractThe problem of eutrophication in rivers, lakes and other natural water bodies has been a problem since times immemorial. But with the advancement of modern living, explosive population growth, industrialisation and improvement in technology, the magnitude and diversity of wastes have so increased that. this problem has drawn the attention of many environmental engineers and scientists since last decade. S,3iwyer1 has defines_ eutrophication as the increase in nutritive substances in water bodies upsetting ecological balance and resulting in excessive growth of plants and animals. This phenomenon may deteriorate the quality of water to the extent that its economic use in 'agriculture, water supply, recreation and for aquatic life may not be possible.en_US
