dc.description.abstract | Pile foundations are often subjected to combined vertical and horizontal loads. The resultant load on the foundation is thus an inclined load. The investigation reported- herein was aimed at studying the behaviour of single rind vertical pile subjected to inclined loads in Cohesive Boils, Experiments were carried out on 1 .27 cm (0.5 in) diameter solid steel piles with three different length to diameter ratios. Two different consistencies of clay one very soft and the other soft were used. The soil was deposited in the boxes and the piles were driven. Piles were subjected to inclined loads on the top of the pile close to the soil surface. The inclination of load was varied from vertical (a = 00) to horizontal (a = 900) The loads were applied in increments and the measurements of vertical displacements, horizontal displacement and rotation of pile were taken under each increment of load. The piles were tested upto failure and the failure loads were determined. The observed vertical failure loads compared fairly well with the computed ultimate loads, The ultimate vertical loads increased with increase in len-gth of the pile and also the Cohesive strength of soil. | en_US |
