Title: A STUDY OF RESERVOIR CHARACTERISTICS
Authors: Gupta, Pratap K.
Keywords: CIVIL ENGINEERING;RESERVOIR CHARACTERISTICS;CREST LENGTH;RESERVOIR
Issue Date: 1974
Abstract: This study is a step in the direction of eliminating the need for investigations for preliminary estimates of storage capacity and volume of materials needed for the construction of a dam. Characteristic relationships have been est ablished for both gross capacity and volume of materials, and the parameters involved. in the calculation of these qua.. titles, viz., height of dam, crest length of the dam, and water spread area of the dam) are readily available without detailed investigations. Statistics of Indian dams have been collected) data for 330 dams has been used in this study. Characteristic relations have been studied for the volume of materials of a dam as a function of. the crest length and maximum height; the Gross Capacity as a function of the water sere ad are as crest length and maximum helghtj and the specific capacity as a function of waterspread area$ crest length and m,cimum height of a dam. The formulae developed can be usefulApreiiminary planing purposes......
