This thesis entitled 'Air solid fluidization in baffled semifluidized bed' presents an experimental investigations on the effect of vertical baffle on semifluidization characteristics viz a bed expansion, minimum and maximum semif Xuidization velotitteb, packed bed formation and pressure drop in various zonesq, IIi the experimental studies a 76:1 mnm ID. perspex coltamn was employed, concentric vertical baffle made of perspex tube with O.D. of 19.3 mm, 36mm and 59.1 mm were used.. Aluminitum grid plate was used as- air distributer and as support for the particles. spherical Glass Lacs, crushed Bauxite, Lime stone and Baryte in the size range of 462 micron to 80 micrce were employed in the studies. The bed pressure drop was measured as a function o1: air flow rate in fixed bed, at the onset of flu ,dization f in fluidized bed zone* at onset of 3entifluidizatiou, and in semifluidized bed zone an ", the corresponding height of packed bed formed at the top restraint 'ere measured. The result obtained in semifluidized bed without baffle were in accordance with the earlier reported work in literature# keeping the same cndtiis of operation the effect of baffle on semifluidization char tetistics was studied.. Semi fluidization characteristics like minimum semifluidization velocity and packed bed formed were found to be affected by the presence of baffle. the particle movement was observed tobe restricted due to the presence of baffle.en_US
