The present dissertation work deals with the comparative study of existing IS:1893-1984 code and revised draft code in terms of seismic responses (Bending Moment, Shear Force, Axial. Force, Displacement and -Drift) for some of the multistoreyed buildings constructed in India. Five symmetrical -multistoreyed buildings ranging from eight to fifteen storeyes located in New Delhi (Zone.- IV) and Calcutta (Zone III) comprising regular - . and without shear wall frames, have been considered. - - Buildings have ' been analysed using V euivalent lateral force and V response spectrum.. method as -recommended, by the codes,- using plane frame program without considering soil-structure ,interaction effect. The seismic response.' quantities (Bending Moment,_ Shear Force, "Axial = Force, Displacement : and Drift) are compared for multistoreyed- buildings between- existing ,IS: 1893-1984 and revised draft -code, assuming frame as Ordinary Moment Resisting Frame (OMRF) and Special Moment Resisting Frame (SMRF). Results-. of the study indicates that for buildings less than 40 'm. --height in zone IV, seismic response- (Bending -Moment, shear-- Force, -Axial force) are increased,. up- to l5% in revised draft code considering- frame as - -• V an OMRF. Further, study also _indicate that for high rise buildings in _ zone IV (Fourteen Storeyed Building, New Delhi) bending -moment and shear force at outer column of -- ground floor are increased by 30.27 % and 70.92 % respectively, in revised draft code considering frame as an OMRF, while • in . case of SMRF bending .moment is V decreased by 3.36%- and shear force -is- - V increased by , 1.76% for the same column.en_US
