Abstract: | The cyclone separator is extensively used as a means of dust removal from gases in a wide range of engineering processes. In this thesis, first, an exhaustive literature review has been carried out with regards to the mechanism of dust separation from the gas stream, velocity proli!cs/ flow patterns, collection efficiency and pressure drop correlations etc. Various methods have been adopted for calculating the pressure drop and efficiency, with and without utilizing the concept of saltation velocity. These methods have been utilized to study and evaluate the performance of six standard configurations of cyclone for a set of industrial exhaustive emission data. A theoretical analysis of two-phase gas-solid in cyclone has been investigated to determine the effect of particles on the swirl velocity distribution. With the help of two-phase Naviei - tokes equations, the swirl velocities of the fluid and the particle phases have been evaluated theoretically by numerical schemes. The passage of dust particles through a cyclone collector has been studied using the Stokesian model of viscous drag. The extraction time to for any particle is calculated. |
