dc.description.abstractA mathematical model in which the parameters have clear physical meanings and the variables are functions of space dimensions, is called . Physically Based DiStributed Model. In recent times a lot of work has been done on physically based models and these are found to be reliable in predicting runoff of a catchment. These models include the Top model, the ARNO model and the SHE model etc., These models are also capable of predicting the effect of man's activity on catchment runoff Physically based models are found to have many advantages over the types of hydrologic models for runoff generation in a catchment, as they consider all the parameters which contribute to the runoff such as overland flow; subsurface flow, evapotranspiration etc., Most of existing Physically based models need for their use elaborate data on hydroclimatic, topographic, soil and land use characteristics. of the catchment. Therefore in The present thesis a Simple Physically based model originally proposed by Field and William's is extended and applied to the daily rainfall-runoff data of river Narmada upto. Jamtara. The model has been applied considering the entire catchment to have alternatiVely uniform and distributed rainfalls: Also the Flux equation for routing of flow in the channels is modified to account for the dynamic nature of Stage discharge relationship. Satisfactory results have been obtained when the model is applied to the data from different storm events both in Calibration and Verification Period.en_US
