dc.description.abstractUse of piles is one of the popular methods of handling weak subsoil for foundations. The time and cost involved in the analysis and design of pile foundations can be very much reduced by using computer packages. Graphic package reduces the drafting time and the results in the form of graphics make the user understand the outcome of the whole design more easily. The present work is an attempt in this direction. A user friendly interactive package "PILE'98" for design and drafting of pile and pile cap has been developed. The package can run in any PC system and has been developed in Turbo C language with graphic features. Some salient features of the package are : 1) Facility to access directly any of its 3 main parts viz. Proportioning of Pile Group, Structural Design of Pile and Structural Design of Pile Cap. Proportioning of pile group part of the package outputs detailed pile group configuration with soil profile and design loads as input. With design loads and grades of concrete and steel as input the results of structural design of pile and pile cap may be obtained. Further the detailed reinforcement drawings are also shown to the user. 2) Relevant knowledge base on codal provisions and design practices are in-built and guides the user in selecting the design parameters. 3) The output includes various design dimensions, reinforcement details etc. in tabular form as well as in graphical form.en_US
