Abstract: The population catastrophe has created lot many problems for the country planner. Industrial growth is essential to improve the life style of the people. During recent past, it is being noticed that in many areas industrial growth is causing several negative impacts, in addition to the positive impacts. This has given a new challenge for the survival of the human being. Inspite of the fact that several industrial policy and acts are available, it has been found that they are rarely applied before siting industries. The reasons for the same may be attributed to the non-availability of required data, non-availability of industrial zoning atlas integrated approach for siting industries keeping in view the environmental factors. In the present study an integrated approach has been proposed for delineating corridors-suitable for industrial development. In these corridors, detailed study may be under taken,' for specific use. The proposed methodology was tested in Ratnagiri district of Maharastra for delineating suitable areas for three categories of industries, namely air polluting industries, surface water polluting industries and ground water polluting industries. The study revealed that in the eastern part of the Ratnagiri district any type of industry can be sited as this area is less sensitive to industrial development.
