There is only one model available for analysis of flow through lateral orifice. Also, the available model has not been tested for various experimental conditions. Present study is an effort to collect experimental data on flow through lateral orifices. A set of 128 experimental runs are obtained. In certain runs, formation of vortices was observed. The influence of these vortices on discharge coefficient appears to be negligible. For runs with L/B ratios of 0.2 and 0.3, the agreement between observed and computed discharges is not good. In view of this, a modified relationship for the coefficient discharge has been proposed for the present experimental conditions. The need for conducting further experiments is also emphasized.en_US
