COMPUTER AIDED COST CONTROL OF PROJECTS

Abstract

Scientific management of civil engineering projects have come a long way from planning by bar chart to sophisticated network techniques, like CPM, PERT, GERT and precedence network. The network techniques have revolutionised the concept of project management. While managing the project by conventional method the status of the project can't be assessed at different stages. Hence when the management comes to know that the project is heading towards heavy losses, it is simply too bate to control it. On the other network techniques promise a greater greap on project control. Network based project management keeps the management informed of every minute detail of the project. However the network based control of project requires a great deal of enormous data handling. So it isn't possible to do network based project control without using computers. With the invention of digital computers the network theories can be easily employed through computers for efficient and economical planning & monitoring of the project. Keeping this in view, an entraclive software package is developed in the present study. The software is capable of performing the task of time scheduling, budgeting, cost monitoring, cash flow forcasting at different stages and final budget forcasting. The output of the software is kept minimum so that the management mayn't be confused by enormos data generated by the cost control system. The data can be entered either in intractive mode through terminal or from a pre-edited data file. Several checks have been incorporated to ensure correctness of data. Further an actual case study has been carried out and presented in a specific format.
