Abstract: A major part of the new building development in the world is in the form of high rise complexes. The complexes accommodate large concentration of people in the metropolitan areas. A building structure is composed of 'horizontal structural system that is floors, Vertical structural system, and the means of access to different floors. The floors subjected to very high amount of live loads. For these live loads if we provide reinforced concrete beams only then its depth becomes very large , which in turn reduces the available headroom. In order to tackle this problem, we provide steel beam and concrete slab, and connect them together by shear connectors in such a way that they becomes monolithic. In this construction, we try to keep the neutral axis of the monolithic structure in such a way that concrete slab is in compression and steel beam is in tension. After attaining this condition in my study, i have tried to search for most efficient rolled section for two floor plan of 12 m X 48 m and 15 m X 60 m for live loads of 3 kN/m and 5 kN/m when depth of slab is taken as 120 mm at one time and 140 mm at another time.
