Issue Date: 1998
Abstract: Water resources are becoming very precious now a days with the increase in the demand for the development and progress of the society. The need for more efficient management of water resources is being recognised owing to the space and time imbalance between the demands for water and the natural supplies. During this study, an optimal conjunctive use planning model under uncertainty, has been developed to maximise the net benefits from the irrigation through efficient use of surface and ground water resources. Different probability/variance levels were included in the constraints as well as objective function using chance constrained stochastic programme technique. The optimal values of the crop areas and the optimal releases of surface and ground water were determined for these probability/variance levels. Sensitivity of these benefits was also studied for different cases such as variation of pumping time and increase in canal diversion and ground water draft.
