Title: BEHAVIOUR OF FOOTINGS SUBJECTED TO TWO-WAY ECCENTRIC LOAD
Authors: Singh, Pravendra
Keywords: CIVIL ENGINEERING;FOOTINGS;TWO-WAY ECCENTRIC LOAD;VERTICAL ECCENTRIC LOAD
Issue Date: 1973
Abstract: Three dimensional tests were performed on square (1OO crn x 10 cm, 15 cm x 15 cm) and rectangular (lt0 cm x 20 cm, 10 cm x 40 cm) surface footings subjected to vertical eccentric load, the eccentricities being ahou-c both the axes of footing, The study was carried out on cohesionless soil compacted at Relative density of 72%=.. ,, device was used to apply the vertical load directly at the base of the footing. Eccentricities were varied from 0 to 0.3B along width and a to 0.3L along length of the footings. Sixteen tests were performed on each footing. In each tt load, sotL-lement and tilts measurements were taken. Bearing capacity was found to decrease with the increase e in eccentricity - width ratio ( F") and eccentricity - long i;h y ratio ( L ). Settlement and tilt ok:serva Bien indicated that maximum settlement and tilt occurs at ex/F. = ey/L ', 0.1 and ex /E = ey/L 0.17 respectively. Ohs ,ved -'.ata was compared with the results of previous investigators and the reasonable agreement was found hetweon the two. An exhaustive: review of the literature on the pertinent topic has } een included.
