Issue Date: 1972
Abstract: The objected of this investigation is to study the suitability of the strip method, pioneered by A. Hillerborg, for design of R.C. Slabs. The basic principles of the method have been presented here and seven examples for slabs having different boundary and loading Conditions have been solved. Some of these examples have been solved by yield line theory also and results of two methods have been compared. One test specimen, which is a simply supported rectangular slab of size 2.00 in x 3.00 rn was tasted to destruc-tion under uniform load for this purpose. Moment-strain relationship obtained by testing of control strips are used to get the moments actually developed at various points of the slab. These developed moments are in close agreement with the theoretical values of the moments. The theoretical and experimental deflections are also compared. The load for which the slab specimen was designed has been verified experimentally. Tt has also been proved that the discontinuity lines assumed durin; analysis will be the actual yield lines after collapse. By the theoretical derivations and experimental obser-vations it nas been concluded that the method gives a simple, safe and economical solution and is safe from senvicibility point of view.
