dc.description.abstract | Though some literature is 01tilable on Swelling and Swelling pressure in the Vt rtical direction not m ch literature is available on the meurc mont of swelling and swelling pressure in the horizo;l+al or any other dire©tion. In this investigation swellings and Fwclling pressurc have been measured at 0°, 30°y 45°9 60° and 90° with the hd1izon- tal for an expansive soil obtained from t .lisp x*- he un- donfiricd co;ipresaive strengths have blso been m stt1ed Ett 009 45° and 90° with the horizontal for the same soil. The samples have been compacted to various density and moisture content conditions corresponding to predetermined points on the compaction curves of standard proctor and t1,S1O compactivc efforts. From the experimental results it is seen that the directional variation of swelling and swelling pressure is of an elliptical netrc j with the major axis oriented at 0 45 to the horizontal. The unconfined compressive strengths have been found. to be the same in vertical and horizontal directions but a relatively smaller value h .s been obtained at 450 to the horizontal, | en_US |
