Issue Date: 1971
Abstract: The diversity of opinion among the designers, as regards the economic proportions of Intze tank, is evident from the wide range of proportions exhibited by the existing structures. In the present work, the effect of the change in proportions on the cost of the tank has been assessed. The parameters of proportions varied are : height to diameter ratio of the cylindrical portion, ratio of the bottom ring beam diameter to the diameter of the cylindrical portion, ratio of the rise of the bottom dome to the diameter of the bottom ring beam and angle of the conical floor with the horizontal. The analysis, design and cost estimation have been done using a digital computer. Based on the cost, suitable proportions for an overhead Intzo tank have been recommended for the range of capacities which are likely to be encountered in practice.
