Issue Date: 1971
Abstract: Burmister has given equatice~s for stresses is the subgrade and the pavement layers, assuming poissas' s ratio+ as same for bath the layers. In reality the poiseou' s ratio for the pavement layer may vary from 0.1 to 0.5 thereby causing significant variation is the stresses developed, Is this study as atteapt has been made to develop stress equations for varying poissoa' s ratios. The 134 7044 computer has been used to coapute the stresses is the pavement layer and the subgrade. The effects of the fundamental variables, viz., E/E2 , a/h, ,ii and jz2 up aM► the stresses develope is the pavement layer and the subgrade have been lsritically discussed to enable the rapid appraisal of the problem of two layer system. The design charts have been developed to determine the pavement thicksesses from the considerations of the critical stresses is the pavement layer and the eubgrade, The use of these charts has been explained by illustrative examples.
