Abstract: Shear strength charecteristics of an anisotropically consolidated soil has been investigated.-Anisotropic consolida-tion was done in a 4°' diameter and 8" high consolidation rings► Consolidated undrained triaxial and unconfined compression tests were conducted on samples extracted at different inclinations, with horizontal (00, 300, 600 and 900) Compressive strength and cohesion component of shear strength were found to be maximum for vertical. samples and mini-mum for the samples inclined at an.glecC = 300 with the horizontal.
