Abstract: An attempt has been made to correlate the results of field vane shear apparatus and laboratory vane shear apparatus, for two sites at Roorkee where 50 foot deep bore holes were made. As a part of this study., an improved field vane shear apparatus was designed and fabricated after incorporating some modifications in the existing designs. The apparatus confirms to I.S.I. specifications. Different field and laboratory tests were performed on the basis of the data obtained, an attempt has been made to• correlate undisturbed field vane shear strength with unconfined compressive strength and field sensitivity with liquidity index.. correlation between the ratio of field to laboratory vane shear strength and, depth of soil stratum has been suggested.
