dc.description.abstractWater tanks, bins, etc. come under the category of storage structures. Behaviour of storage structures under dynamic loads involves various aspects. Analysis of bins Is quite different than that Of water tanks because Of the dimensions and the effect of fills. This nvut*gattOn deals with some of the aspects rsgardtng dynamic behaviour of bins. Bins vesting on ground and fixed at bssC are mainly considered in this tnvesttgat on. An expression has been obtained by modifying Airy' $ theory to obtain the late sl pressures dust to earthquake type horizontal loads. Lateral pressures in static condt tons have been checked by experiments and are found to be very near to those obtained by Air 's theory o- While designing bins for dynamic loads full live load should not be taken as effective, as friction reduces it. Live load coefficients are obtained for some cases and those are for less than. 1. Bins above ground are sff*. ctsd by the properties of staging'.
