Abstract: The yield line theory having been established as a rational procedure for design of slabs, which could take Into account all inelastic tendencies the attempts are made now to use it for more complex cases of slabs which are irregular in shape and with various support conditions. The present volume is an attempt to apply this theory in case of slab staircases with two flights at right angles and with various support conditions of landing. The general behaviour of the slab is described first. The method of design of staircase is also indicated. The Yield Line Theory is developed after this. The yield line methods with illustrations are described so that one may become familiar with their use. A practical design problem is also illustrated, Chapter V gives considerations to secondary effects in connection with yield line method of analysis and design. Special mention may be made of thickening and negative reinforcement needed over the columns. In Chapter VI testing procedures have been described and test results compared with the calculations. Load deflection curves are also shown here. The various test results show the necessity of checking in shear and the comparatively lesser importance of lower bound solutions.
