Abstract: Transmission line fault classification and determination is an important concern of power engineers, in this thesis work an approach for classification of transmission line faults for two different systems namely a simple two bus system and a double transmission line is presented. This approach is based on Type-2 fuzzy logic using wavelet transforms as pre-processor ,requires the consideration of the samples of three phase currents at relay location of transmission line. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is illustrated by simulation studies, using EMTP/PSCAD and MATLAB, have been carried out for different types of faults considering wide variations in the operating conditions(such as different fault resistances, inception angle, fault location and loading levels). The simulation results show that the proposed scheme for fault classification is able to classify all the faults on the parallel transmission line and simple two bus system rapidly and correctly.
