Abstract: Distance protection of series compensated ac transmission lines is presented here, it has been very challenging task. This is because the capacitance compensates some of the inductance of the line and therefore the relay may perceive a fault to be in its first zone when the fault is actually in the second or third zone of protection. Clearly this can cause some costly operating errors. A new ap line using an adaptive technique like Si The proposed technique comprises o: Classification and Fault distance calcula steps are carried out with the help of SVI The support vector machines are trained distance calculation post fault voltage si current signals. The proposed scheme samples compared to the neural-network The performance of the proposed scherr. Also the results obtained are compared the accuracy and time taken is less a con )roach for the protection of series compensated pport Vector Machine has been proposed here. three steps Fault Zone identification, Fault ion along with the first zone detection all these >ing post fault current samples for half cycle. In tals for half cycles are also used along with the >nverges very fast with fewer no. of training nd neuro-fuzzy systems. is found accurate for all the tested performed. ith the other methods reported in the literature ared to the existing techniques.
