Abstract: The traffic and transportation is a basic infrastructure which is usually a prerequisite for economic development. Transport plays a multi faceted role in the pursuit of development objectives. Transportation contributes to the economic, industrial, social and cultural development of any country. The growth of the city depends upon its transportation network. The transport is the medium through which demand and supply interact which each other. In developing countries like India transport is seen to grow at rates, which are two to four times the rate of growth of the economy. In India, because of country's size, population and diversity transport plays an important role. Since the natural resources are not equitably distributed, transport gives 'place utility' to the raw materials. Transport requirement in India is achieved by a number of modes such as railways, roads, air and water transport etc. Though the share of railways in the total G.D.P. of the nation is higher but roads are vital elements for economic development as they stimulate and support the growth in all sectors of economy.....
