The fact that the thermal energy is the main source of power generation itself shows the importance of thermal power generation in India. More than 60% of electrical power is produced by thermal power plants in India. This necessitates for energy management within the plant so that optimized power generation is obtained. To obtain maximum power from thermal power plants protection of the equipment used in power plant is also must. This protection is done with the help of different interlocks. The present dissertation work is divided into two parts: Part 1 deals with the energy management and Part 2 deals with Boiler Interlocks of Kothagudem thermal power plant —A. In Energy Management Auxiliary Power Consumption of various main plant auxiliaries have been calculated. The main plant auxiliaries are boiler feed water pump, condenser extraction pump, induced draft fan, forced draft fan, circulating water pump and mill system. Simulator software on boiler interlocks has been developed in Visual C++. Simulator software describes the interlocks of various fans used in a thermal power plant and also the operation on boiler control panel (BCP). The BCP is also referred as Furnace Safe Guard Supervisory System (FSSS) Panel. Simulator software has been designed on a 60MW KTPS —A boiler control panelen_US
