Abstract: Sustainable development is an all encompassing concept which in a nutshell means improving the quality of life of all. More comprehensively, it emphasizes a harmonious blend of addressing of short term problems even while ensuring long-term sustainability. In essence, sustainable development advocates-"meeting the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their demands" [19] Urbanization is an evolutionary process, and it is also a dynamic phenomena. Urbanization leads to an increased impact on the environment. Sustainable growth requires an evolution in the way urban areas carry out their activities, such as, resource use and the movement of people and goods. The physical infrastructure in addition to social and economic processes must also evolve the challenges of growth. Sustainable urban development highlights the need for reform of market mechanisms to achieve environmental goals and the achievement of a balance with social and economic considerations....
