dc.description.abstractThe problem of urban slums is a universal phenomena In, developing -countries- this problem is more cr�â� �¢:..cial and complex largely due to their limited means and resources Although in India enough efforts have been made for improvement of life in urban slums , yt:c majority of the slum dwellers live under conditions olf deprivations and lead their life in extrerr,e misery . They are usually connected with high rate- of juvenile del,i'nquenc , crimes , illiteracy alcholism and every other evil that finds root in poverty and misery In a�â� �¢sitwation where majority of slum dwellers are poor , land and building cost , living index and rents are high , to conceieve any sol,~.tion for total,er adication of slums and their resettlement at National level isvery much unrealistic There fore it 15 thought desiral~le to view this problem , specially in Indian context , fbr improving the life of slum dwellers in existing slums with the availability of limited funds and resources . Further to study the problem at the grass roots , area of study is confined to Bhopal city and it. selected slum settlements for -the purpose of working out a future planning strategy ;jr further improvement of life in urban slumsen_US
