In this thesis, the application of Binary Multilevel Voltage Source Inverter based STATCOM has been investigated for voltage control in power distribution system. For this purpose, the detailed mathematical modeling of the system under consideration has been carried out and subsequently the parameters of the voltage control system have been designed from the fundamental principles. The validity of the designed control system has been demonstrated on an IEEE test system through detailed electromagnetic transient simulation studiesen_US
