Abstract: Computers are widely used in Civil Engineering designs as they can perform computational tasks of a magnitude far beyond the capability of any human. The problem of prestressed concrete T-beam analysis and design has been dealt within this dissertation. Primarily, the analysis of T- beam involves application of various load combinations to calculate maximum moment that can occur at mid span due to external loading. With this moment known, a section is to be selected which caters the need for critical live load moment as well as keeps dead load moment minimum. Thus there is a need for lot of iterative calculations which can be handled easily with the help of computer. A prestressed concrete T-Beam system is ideally suited for large spans of prefabricated slabs. A software package has been developed in 'C' language for analysis, design and drafting of prestressed concrete T-beam. The design is based on Indian Standard specifications. The package is made interactive so that the user may exercise his own options regarding dimensions, steel grade and quantity, concrete grade etc. to obtain the design as per the requirements and the package is made effective by including drafting part which gives the cross sectional view of the section provided and longitudinal profile of beam showing minimum and maximum as well as provided eccentricities and section showing reinforcement details at mid span of the section. The working of the software package has been illustrated by solving few design problems. Parametric study has been carried out for different flanges and depths. The stress at prestressing , lifting and for design loads are checked and ultimate moment, shear stress are calculated. In the present work, some details of the computational steps and the flow charts are included for the benefit of the user.
