dc.description.abstractElectricity is modern man's most convenient and useful- form of energy. Without it the present social infrastructure would not at all be feasible. The increasing per capita consumption of electricity throughout the world reflects a growing standard of living of people. The optimum utilization by society of this form of energy can be ensured by an effective distribution system. The present work deals with the energy audit for power distribution network. For the purpose of energy audit various monitoring devices (energy meters) are placed in the distribution network to measure KW, KVAr and power factor at a regular interval and the time slot is also stored by these devices Normally the time interval is 30 minutes that is records 48 readings per day. For the given monitoring point a method is developed to estimate the losses and energy consumption (KWh) by the customers. From the revenue collection, it is determined monitoring device-wise (area monitored by each device). Thus it determines areas of high commercial loss and further action can be taken to reduce the commercial losses by installing extra monitoring devices or some administrative measures. Procedure for providing capacitors to reduce reactive power flow and technical losses has also been implemented for a radial distribution system of a zone of Bhopal city.en_US
