Abstract: Accidents can neither be predicted nor prevented. The problem before us is how to cope with them to minimize their impacts. Increase in urban population coupled with the need to fulfill the growing demands of these centers, a lot of industrial facilities are constructed, often poorly maintained subject cities to greater levels of risk to life and property in the event of industrial accidents- One of the main objectives is to reduce the risk of loss of human life and property and to reduce costs to the society. In order to do so preparedness is necessary. Therefore Hazard Zoning is an essential part of disaster mitigation and helps the authorities in taking crucial decision at crucial times. In this dissertation work Dow F&EI is used to calculate the damage distance in case of fire or explosion at petroleum products storage facilities. Further, Business Interruption is also calculated to show the economic impact of such an event. ALOHA, USEPA software is also used to calculate the damage distance which uses dispersion models to find out the affected distance. For frequent safety concerns, Dow F&EI estimates may be used to implement the mitigation measures. ALOHA provides good estimates for extreme events.
