Issue Date: 2002
Abstract: To increase the power transmission capability of transmission line now a days various type of flexible AC transmission system (FACTS) devices are used. Since Transmission line cannot be loaded beyond its thermal limit. Therefore to meet the increase in heavy demand of power it becomes necessary to construct a new transmission line, which is very uneconomical, also due to increase in population land is not easily available for right of way for construction of new transmission lines. Hence one of possible solution is that to increase the transmission line capacity by. using the most effective. flexible AC transmission systems (FACTS) device, Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor (TCSC). This dissertation report has proposed an algorithm for optimal placement of FACTS device i.e. TCSC in modern power system. In this report, a systematic procedure of operation and placement of TCSC in power system has been analyzed. The proposed algorithm, based on loss sensitivity index for optimal placement of TCSC, has been applied to IEEE-14 bus test case system. The results so obtained are found to be quite encouraging and accurate.
