In this work an approach is presented to detect, identify and locate the power quality problems. The method is based on the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) analysis. The given signal is decomposed through wavelet transform and any change on the smoothness or pattern of the signal is detected and located at the finer wavelet transform resolution levels. This forms the detection stage of the process. In the next stage, the energy curve of the given signal is evaluated and its deviation from one of the corresponding fundamental component is found. This is used in the identification of power quality problem as each power quality disturbance has unique deviations from the pure sinusoidal waveform. Many types of power quality disturbances are considered and this method has been applied to detect and identify themen_US
