dc.description.abstractHydraulic jump is a phenomena that is having so many practical applications especially for the use of energy dissipation. It is therefore an interesting and useful phenomenon which is studied in open channel hydraulics. Past investigations on hydraulic jump have concentrated on establishing the properties of the hydraulic jump mainly on horizontal floor.Thus, relatively little information is available concerning the attributes of hydraulic jump on sloping floors. This thesis presents an intromission of various aspects of a hydraulic jump on a sloping floor such as types of hydraulic jumps on a sloping floor, solution to the sequent depth ratio problem, changes induced due to slope of the bed in the analysis of the hydraulic jump, velocity profile in the jump on a sloping floor and turbulence characteristics of the hydraulic jump on sloping floor. Breif introduction is presented of the experimental set up used in the laboratory for investigation of hydraulic jump. Observations have been taken both manually and with the help of an Acoustic Doppler Velocitymeter (ADV). Charts have been prepared to clearly depict the velocity profiles and turbulence characteristics in the flow of hydraulic jump on sloping floor. The relationship between the sequent depth ratio and upstream flow Froude number has been studied in detail for hydraulic jump on sloping floor. The analysis has also been carried out for the determination of turbulence characteristics within the jump on a sloping floor.en_US
