Abstract: This dissertation concerns with variable speed operations of a 3p squirrel cage induction motor fed from 30 PWM VSI. The control of the inverter (gating) is generated using a PC-AT machine with a program in `C' using space vector technique. Both foreground and background concepts are used.'-'Performance of the drive is experimentally investigated with special emphasis on current transients in transition region. PC-230 I/O card is used for sending firing signals and for speed measurement. LEM current sensor is used for sensing current and protection against over current is made. Protection is made against shoot through fault also. Performance of the drive is investigated in closed loop also. A two-degrees of freedom (2 DOF) Fuzzy controller is used for processing speed error. To check the effectiveness of this controller, a simulation study is also done.
