MATERIALS PLANNING FOR TRANSFORMER INDUSTRY

Abstract

A software for Production Planning in a transformer manufacturing unit has been developed. The Production Schedule based on the orders received, capacity of the unit, the sequence of activities involved in the manufacturing process, and the penalty clause (in case of overbooking) is prepared with the help of the software. Actual data is obtained from a manufacturer for this purpose. The Master Production Schedule for a particular period is then stroed in theform of a database. The materials required to manufacture a single transformer of various types have been calculated using the data sheets of the manufacturers. The materials lists constitute the Bills of Materials for various types of transformers. The Bills of Materials for various types of transformers are stored in the form of database. Using the Master Production Schedule and the Bills of Materials databases the material requirements for different periods are calculated with the help of the software and stored in the form of databases. All the databases developed can be easily accessed by the user. The software has been developed using dBASE IV Ver. 1.5
