Title: EVALUATION OF EFFECT OF BRIDGE COMPONENTS ON THE RESPONSE OF A BRIDGE", SEISMIC
Keywords: EARTHQUAKE ENGINEERING;BRIDGE COMPONENTS;SOIL STRUCTURE;SEISMIC RESPONSE
Issue Date: 2011
Abstract: Abutment behavior, bearings and soil below the footing influence the seismic response of bridge. Realistic modeling of different components should be therefore be used in the bridge model to correctly capture the seismic response of the bridge. Hence, this dissertation work is being carried out to study the effect of bridge components like modeling of abutment, modeling of bearing, modeling of soil structure interaction with two different approaches, modeling of expansion joint!p To study their effects on dynamics response of the structure finite element software SAP2000 is used. Analysis is carried by using response spectra analysis and time history analysis for hard, medium and soft soil. Comparison of analysis result shows major difference in base shear, time period and bearing displacement. Effect of deck connection with pier namely isolated and non-isolated connection is compared. A parametric study is also conducted to investigate the effect of soil flexibility and bearing parameters on the response of isolated bridge system
