dc.description.abstractUsage of Remote Sensing and GIS technologies may be considered as the essential prerequisite for careful physical spatial planning to make optimum use of the roads as communication links for all seasons as a great amount of money are invested in planning and construction activities of the roads. In this dissertation different possible alternate road route alignments from Haridwar to Delhi were found using remote sensing and GIS. Using remote sensing the raster data was geo-referenced (obtained by scanning Survey of India toposheets) and the data was updated using IRS satellites Panchromatic (PAN) and Linear Imaging Self-scanning Sensor (LISS III) data. Using GIS online digitization of road network and integration of spatial data in the GIS with the non-spatial data was done. Based on routing analysis (which depends on many factors such as distance, travel time, travel speed, number of turns) and using the Best Path and Easy Path different possible alternate road route alignments from Haridwar to Delhi were found.en_US
