Analysis and design of pile foundations has drawn considerable attention in the recent years due to their failure in recent earthquakes. The seismic response of pile foundations is a very complex process involving inertial interaction between structure and pile foundation, kinematic interaction between piles and soils, seismically induced pore-water pressures and the non-linear response of soils to strong earthquake motions. In the present study, the seismic response of the soil-pile system for harmonic excitation of varying frequencies has been studied. Effect of soil property such as stiffness and the nonlinearity of soil, has been investigated. Liquefaction analyses were carried out to study the effects of various parameters such as relative density, cyclic shear stress and cohesion on the excess pore-pressure ratio developed under seismic loading conditions. In order to conduct the liquefaction studies, Finn model with the specification of Byrne's parameters for generation of pore water pressure has been used. All the analyses were done using a finite difference program FLAC3Den_US
