Computers are widely used in Civil Engineering designs as they can perform computational tasks of a magnitude far beyond the capabilities of a human being. The problems of analysis, design and costing for Conventional Intze tanks as well as Intze tanks having petal shaped cylindrical wall have been dealt in this dissertation. For this a Computer Programme is developed. The software is user friendly and totally interactive and follows Indian standard codal provisions. A bare minimum knowledge of Civil Engineering is required to run the software. A comparative study of the costs of above two types of tanks for different cases has been studied. Also a rational study has been carried out to compare the costs for the above two types of Intze tanks. Two important parameters namely Capacity of Tank (Q) and Cylindrical Wall Height to Diameter Ratio (k2) are varied and in all 60 cases for both types of tanks have been run and following inferences have been drawn. i. The petal shaped tanks are not recommended for the lower capacities (200 to 500 m3). ii. For capacity range from 500 m3 to 1500 m3 the petal shaped tanks with k2 varying from 0.6 to 0.74rerecommended. iii. At higher capacities in the range of 1500 to 2000 m3, the petal shaped tanks are „ recommended with k2 varying from 0.3 to 0.5.en_US
