In this thesis effect of mixing and compacting temperature on various physical properties of bituminous mixes is studied. Marshall Stability tests and skid resistance tests for three types of bituminous mixes Viz., DBM, BC, SDBC are carried out. In preparing the bituminous mixes twenty temperature combinations are used, only 60/70 penetration grade binder has been used for all three types of mixes and Rothfutch's method has been adopted to select the desired gradation of coarse aggregate, fine aggregate and added filler material. There are a large number of factors which have a bearing on skid resistance of bituminous wearing surfaces. In the present work, the frictional behavior of bituminous wearing surfaces of three types of mixes Viz., DBM, BC, SDBC at varying mixing and compaction temperature combinations has been studied in laboratory using portable skid tester of pendulum type. Variation in different physical properties i.e., Marshall Stability, Percent Air Voids, VFB, VMA, Flow Value, due to changes in mixing and compaction temperatures is analyzed and presented in various plots. The variation of Skid Resistance of three types of bituminous mixes observed with mixing and compacting temperature has been tabulated.en_US
