Abstract: The operation of filtration units is very significant in water treatment plant. The termination of filter run is achieved when filtrate quality has achieved a certain critical limit or the head loss reaches the preassigned maximum permissible value. Depending upon either of the two performance indicators, a filter run is terminated. The prediction of filtrate concentration and head loss are of great interest. Previously forecasting was done using mathematical models followed by probabilistic and recursive approaches. Fore casting of recursive algorithm has been documented in the present work. However, only the use of linear recursive algorithm has been explored. Whenever there is rapid head loss or rapid deterioration of filtration quality, the forecasting using linear algorithm is not always satisfactory. To full fill this gap a variety of recursive algorithms have been tested with the help of comprehensive developed software in Visual Basic. For this purpose, data of filtration units from Germany, India and U.K. and utilized.
