Title: STUDIES IN SHEAR STRENGTH OF CONCRETE DUE TO DOWEL ACTION OF TMT BARS

Issue Date: 2003
Abstract: In spite of extensive research program and in spite of successful use of concrete in structures of all types, it is still true that the fundamental behavior of concrete members in transferring shear is not fully understood. This is no doubt the reason that in certain cases design practices that have been used have resulted in costly failures. Insufficient shear resistance may produce failure without warning, and at least a local collapse results. The recommended design procedures to provide shear resistance have undergone considerable changes in the various codes, and differ considerably today in countries where modern construction is a large industry. Objective of this experimental work is to study and compare the shear crack pattern obtained after using longitudinal reinforcement bars of different diameters viz. 8, 10, 12 and 16mm with their behavior in dowel action.
