Abstract: Extensive earthquake damage to RC buildings, in the past earthquakes demand better understanding of the responses of such structures under lateral !bads. The large stock of these vulnerable building also indicates urgent need for effective and economic techniques to strengthen In the present study, a four storey (G+3) RC framed building located in Ahmedabad has been selected for the evaluation and retrofitting. In this report, a new methodology is produced for the pushover analysis of the building using demand and capacity. In this approach. We increase the lateral load in steps and d.et' the demand capacity ratio (DCR) for every member and finally draw the pushover cure in x and z direction the selected building between base shear and roof deflection. The pushover curve reflects the failure mechanism and strength parameter such as ductility, stiffness, strength, damping and dissipated energy of the building, which can't be predicted by linear approach. After finding the deficient members of the building , retrofitting is done using shear wall and done the pushover analyses again for each increment and draw the pushover curve for x and z direction. the pushover curves before after retrofitting reflects that the ductility, stiffness and other parameters of the building are increased significantly, after retrofitting in both x and direction.
