Abstract: | In this age of information technology, information plays a vital role to travellers travelling from one place to another. Having an understanding of tourists and where they come from, and knowing what they want to see and do and how to get the information, all these factors are essential for the success of any tourism industry. Since Uttaranchal is one of the most beautiful and visited places in India due to its religious value and natural beauty. So there is a need to develop tourism GIS for Uttaranchal State. In this work, GIS based tourism information has been developed for Uttaranchal State. To develop a tourist information system, a Data Base Management System (DBMS) has been generated to handle the large volume of data related to tourist places, like hill stations, places of pilgrimage, national parks, hotels, transport facilities, hospitals, banks, post offices and other tourist related information. All this information can be displayed on the map by linking the data to the maps, and to develop a concept related with 'Tourism GIS' in GIS environment. Now a days, Internet plays a vital role to get the information about the world. This Data Base Management System can be linked to Internet, so that tourists can get all information about the places to be visited in Uttaranchal. Since all the data is in digital form, the same can be easily upgraded. |
