Retaining walls are very important and widely used structural elements especially in construction in hilly region for both buildings and highways. Hence designing retaining walls with adequate safety and economy deserves attention. Experience has shown many advantages of using computer programs with interactive graphics facility. A great deal of valuable time in designing and analyzing the retaining wall can be saved. Graphics package reduces the drafting time and the results in the form of graphics give the designer better feel of design. In the present dissertation an attempt has been made towards the development of a user-friendly interactive program for design and drafting of reinforced concrete cantilever and counterfort retaining walls. The package is developed on Pentium PC using Windows platform. The package is interactive and uses graphic facility of Visual Basic. The ease and flexibility available in Window based commercial packages on today's computers has given prime importance while developing the program. Earth pressure due to backfill, earthquake and water table has been taken into account as per IS:1893-1984 provisions. The design of wall elements has been done by limit state method of design as per IS:456-2000. The package fulfills the requirement of the day and satisfies the need of the user.en_US
