A sewerage system is composed of various sewer lines terminating at the junction of a large sewer line. The large sewer line also terminates at the junction of a still larger sewer line. Finally, the main sewer line terminates at the out-fall. Thus, a sewerage system can be viewed as a set of sewer lines collecting discharges at their nodal points and emptying into another set of sewer line. In the design of sewerage system the sewer line is the basic unit occurring repeatedly in the design process. Sewer design with the help of design chart is a very tedious and time consuming job and hence it can be said that most economical design of a sewer system is often not obtained because engineers can afford to investigate only a few different alternatives due to the labour involved. The use of computer not only minimizes the cost but also satisfies the various requirements. The scenario of computer application in civil Engineering problem is at drastic veer and it is truer in relation to Computer Aided Design (CAD). The use of CAD has many advantage like large storage facility, quick retrieval, increased accuracy, drafting and easy modification to old design. Keeping in view the above aspects a generalized and interactive computer program in C has been developed which also includes Graphics to show sewer profile. The design is based on,Lagrange-multiplier algorithm for sewer line design developed by Swamee (2001). In case study sewerage system has also been designed to compare the CAD with the conventional design.en_US
