Abstract: Researchers are making every efforts to evolve effective strategies of mass consumption of flyash so that the present utilisation rate of flyash may be significantly enhanced and the storage/dumping problem could be suitably handled. The present work is confined to study the Consolidation Characteristics Of Flyash in untreated and in stabilised form and to see how effectively the settlement could be reduced .The experimental investigations were carried out on Flyash stabilised by increasing percentage of Solani Sand and Dhanouri Clay respectively by 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% and 50%, at their respective maximum dry density and optimum moisture content. It was observed that decrease in compression index and settlement was significant for 20%Solani Sand + 80%Flyash mix, although compression index and settlement decreases for higher mix, the decrement was marginal. The coefficient of consolidation of Flyash increases marginally with increasing percentage of Solani Sand in Flyash. The value of coefficient of consolidation was high, which indicates high rate of consolidation, this is a distinct advantage, as most of the settlement will occur by the loading period itself It was also observed that decrease in compression index and settlement was maximum for 30%Dhanouri Clay + 70%Flyash mix, For higher mix decrement in compression index and settlement starts reducing. The coefficient of consolidation upto 30%Dhanouri Clay + 70%Flyash mix is high, and as par with that of Flyash. For higher mix, with increasing percentage of Dhanouri Clay in Flyash, coefficient of consolidation decreases rapidly. From the experimental investigations, it can be said that Flyash can be stabilised by Solani Sand or Dhanouri Clay at their respective MDD and OMC, with respect to consolidation. The stabilisation of Flyash is more pronounced when Solani Sand is mixed in it, then Dhanouri Clay.
